Where We Came From
Our History
For nearly seven decades, VDACL has been at the forefront of community living support in Vernon — growing from a small group of dedicated families into one of the region's most established nonprofit agencies.
Founded by families
A group of dedicated parents and community members came together to advocate for their loved ones with developmental disabilities — founding what would become VDACL.
Program expansion
The organization grew its vocational and community programs, establishing Venture Training as a recognized leader in supported employment and skill-building.
First CARF accreditation
VDACL achieved its first CARF accreditation, marking a major milestone in quality assurance and organizational excellence.
Community enterprise launches
Launched the Recycle Depot, Cycle Cycle bicycle program, and Woodworking vocational programs — creating real employment opportunities for participants.
7th consecutive CARF accreditation
Received our seventh three-year CARF accreditation — the highest level of excellence in our industry — serving 200+ participants across 19 programs.
